CAPTURING PORTUGAL | PT.3

For my final instalment of my Portuguese adventures, we have the caves to explore! Like the jeep tour explained in pt.1, we purchased these tickets at the office rather than the hotel and I was pleasantly amazed by the nature I got to see. The water is so clean it's unreal, you could literally see the bottom it was so clear, the caves formed incredibly well and revealed little beaches here and there. It even had a bridge like the High Line in New York over the caves, if you wanted to visit them by foot!

THE BOOKSHELF EDIT

Books are a humans best friend. When I eventually have a place of my own I proclaim that there will be a room, with large windows, bookshelves covering 3 sides of the room, a fireplace and a very very comfy deep brown leather arm chair, with thick exposed stitching and a foot stool to match. It'll happen. Anyways, I know mine might seem messy, but it's organised mess to me and a sight I like to gaze out eat day.

CAPTURING PORTUGAL | PT.2

Let's talk Lisboa (Lisbon) and Praia da Rocha beach! As I said in the first post of my wonderful Portuguese adventures, exploring the city of Lisbon was one of our things to check off. We made the agonising 4am start up time to catch a coach down the road from our hotel to Lisbon. It took about 6 hours! and let me tell you, the heat almost flipping killed me, but it was worth it to see this exquisite city.  I must apologise in advance for the iPhone images, my DSLR was too heavy to carry all the way to Lisbon.

CAPTURING PORTUGAL | PT.1

The heat may of almost killed me, but my 10 days in the south of Portugal, Portimao, was worth the trouble. Now, I accumulated a mass amount of images so can't possibly compile them into one blog post, so heres part 1. When we arrived, my brother and I immediately hit the beach, gear in toe, and brought ice-cream to celebrate the vitamins we were so desperate to receive.

REASONS TO SMILE

Learning to Smile. Truly smile; not this fakery shit but a true smile. That's an art that I'v been exercising lately. I realise that the world is literally burning, global warming is escalating, politics had exploded, people have gone crazy, but there are still reasons for us to smile.

1. Your alive.
2. You have a roof over your head and the ability to go out and do what you love everyday if you let that happen.
3. Time is not a given, but you have the option to spend your moments the way you wish without dictation no matter what anyone else thinks. For some it's easier to do this than others, but regardless, you still have the option.
4. Someone has got love for you in this world..well..I'm hoping so...most of us have either parent or both, most of us has that one friend or someone in general that cares about them.
5. Your eyesight is good; again, making assumptions due to this being a blog and you needing eyes to read these words.

SPOTTING BRIGHTON

My friend and I spontaneously took an adventure down to Brighton and what must of been the most perfect day. I loved it there, the ice cream, the old sweets shops, the laines, Just what I needed at the time. The first thing we did off the train was hunt for the sea, wasn't hard to be honest, you could see it from the train station. All I remember saying the second I got out of the station was that the smell of the sea smacked me in the face, literally, couldn't hide from it, just made me feel like I was on holiday and it was lovely.

EMBRACE YOUR ELEMENT

Now I'm not telling you that you shouldn't jump outside your element from time to time; but finding your element and embracing it full on is one of the best things anyone can do for themselves. I've always been that type of person to love what I love and not care about the next door neighbours opinion; but as I have aged, cry me a river, I began being cautious of the things I loved.

LET'S TALK EXISTENCE

This isn't the post I wanted to get out today, but staying in Birmingham this weekend has meant my internet takes 4 hours to upload a couple pictures...! sad, I know; however, I was thinking last night about the riddles of our existence. With what's happening in the world today, I fail to have as much hope for humanity as I used to. I end up instead, wondering why I'm even on this planet and how I can escape it if changing it doesn't pan out. call me dramatic, I hear ya. But I have a point here.

CURRENT WALL ART + PRINTS

An Artist first and foremost, I'm so vulnerable to art pieces. Can't help but have them. Can't resist the talent, just can't. Good for the Artist, not my account and I am almost as weak when it comes to prints, however, I have stopped myself buying until I move out into a little place of my own. You'll see my lusting for prints in my Lust Prints List post if you wanna gander....

NOT ALL WHO WONDER ARE LOST

When I first read, not all who wonder are lost, somewhere which I can't re-call unfortunately it made me smile so hard. I'v been searching for the right words to leave my lips for a long loong time and when I read those words, I just felt lifted.

REVIVAL

an old pic I took, but a damn good one

It's been a while, I know, but life took me by surprise again and I lost my strength to type. Don't worry, I still continue writing poetry, currently onto my second book whoop! but I lost any will I had to actually continue this blog. Today, I'm thinking about revival.

Having just come off the plane from Portimao, Portugal, I am extremely tanned, extremely eager to get back to work and feel extremely fortunate to have witnessed such beauty. It reminded me how beautiful it is to live on such a planet and how grateful I should be that I have eyes that work, that allow me to experience it all first hand.

I've really been trying to improve my mood lately, having been built as a woman of colour to survive through pain rather than deal and then survive, I'm aiming to re-programe my brain to not fight the truth on what hurts. One day, I may talk more about what's happened within the last few months, but for now, let me just say this. Our bodies can be torn and abused, our minds can be shredded and mistreated, we can go into denial, we can fall, we can take the hand of someone we shouldn't for help and crumble, we can weep, we can sigh, but we can also heal. Healing is one of the hardest things to do, and I for one, don't have a handle on it yet, but sure do want to persevere in my attempt at doing so.

ACCEPTANCE

Acceptance. It's something we all find hard to do once in a while. And is something I'm urging myself to do right this minute. Often, I like to blame myself for things in life, one thing being lost friendships. And today I found myself scrolling through my timeline, and being hit in the face with the reminder of a particular friendship that got torn to shreds almost a year ago.

WHAT'S BEAUTY? | BLOGRUARY DAY / 7

What's Beauty to you?

Right, I'm currently sitting in my boiling room with spaghetti bolognese, a white chocolate magnum and ginger beer with the Titanic soundtrack in the background, aiding me whilst I write this post that, for some reason I have been gravely procrastinating. I haven't a clue as to why I'm finding it hard to put the words that are flowing from my brain onto screen, but yh that's what's been happening.

Beauty.

WINDSWEPT IN WINDSOR | BLOGRUARY DAY / 6

Welcome to Windsor. A place for royalty and endless cobbled streets. I went up there to visit a friend on Friday; the wind literally was attacking us at every chance it had, but we enjoyed the day nonetheless. I got to see the castle, walk on rainy streets and got my ears pierced all in a few hours! It was a good day.

HOW POETRY HELPED ME HEAL | BLOGRUARY DAY / 4

I have been writing poetry for just over a year now, as a way to take what I'm feeling and generate it into something positive. It has helped me grow, understand my surroundings, be a better person most importantly within my mentality. No.26 is one I wrote on Christmas Day when things went a little sour in my household and to deal I went upstairs and wrote this poem.

PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER | BLOGRUARY DAY / 3

Some days I find myself wondering who I am as a person. Being a wallflower isn't a bad thing, in fact it just means that you don't conform to nor follow the waves that society has laid out for us. Your independent in your mind, maybe a lil weird and awkward like me at times, but overall, you are a unique piece amongst a sea of copies.

SAATCHI GALLERY FINDS | BLOGRUARY DAY / 1

what the heck is blogruary?....
is what you may ask. Well it's basically the same thing as when people do 'vlogtober' etc, but this is purely for bloging and in the month of February, hence the 'blogruary'. It did take me a while to get used to the name but I was so eager to start this attempt at blogging everyday for a month that the name has now grown on me... hopefully by the end of the month, you'll be wishing for more, if you've not become sick of me!

LET YOUR WORDS FLOW

Happy mid-week day everybody, I hope this week has gone to your liking. I thought I'd share something close with you all today. As you may know, poetry is somewhat a saving grace for me and I have been able to balance my emotions out with the creativity it brings. So...today...I decided to share another poem with you all out of my in-progress small(for now) book of poetry. It may not make much sense to you, but I want you to interpret the words, grammar, punctuation etc, which ever way you see fit and, tell me, if you like (won't hate you if you don't) what you got from it. My poems are in order, ranging from small poems to a page and a half poems (not kidding, I let the words flow), written at different points in time of my life over the course of a year, this month. If you were to read it from the beginning, you would notice the evolution of my mind and the poems would tell you a very deep story; however, I am not ready to share those with the world yet...I don't believe it will be complete until I find what I'm looking for (cryptic much Ren?! ha) and I quite imagine for me to print, bound and give as a gift to my kin in the future. I've chosen a kinder one out of the bunch, some are quite brutal and to be honest, not sure if your ready for those ones. So, alas, for now here is one note out of a sea of keys.

――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――

Splattered blood and confused minds
twisted echo confused vines
feelings mutual, child of mine
when the two of us sit down to dine
the mind, the mind, mysteries are made
labyrinths and mazes created to stay
where art thou
mysteries remade
fairy tales and creatures in the night
imaginations running wild
swirling in a far away land like a lost child
when you think of love
when you think of fairytales
when you think of freedom
when you think of mazes
splattered blood and confused minds
twisted echoes confused vines
each to their own
no material areas zone
we can travel through time and space
let’s explore the labyrinth and the maze

LATE AT TATE | MUSIC, ART, BEAUTY

I went to a Late at Tate free exhibition in December and loved it. I am first and foremost an Artist, plus I'm not filthy rich so when free exhibitions pop up in London, I pounce at the opportunity to go. This event was called Generation and reflected on music, art, family, society and heritage. Mostly celebrating the black culture, it did have conversation groups were we talked about individuality and finding yourself amongst a sea of people all telling you, you need to follow a certain 'thread'. It was what I needed to hear at the moment in time because I went there feeling lost and left motivated to do more of what I love no matter what those around me say, and keep growing for myself and myself only. So uplifting to see and hear a mass amount of young and older people bond together and talk about societies issues of today.

MID WEEK OAT CRUMBLE | APPLE + PEAR

I spontaneously decided to make a crumble last week that included these extra things; jumbo rolled oats and pears. Now, I believe I make a pretty damn good apple crumble and haven't used a recipe for a long time; so I do apologise but no measurements were measured and there wasn't a set way to make the dish.

I just flowed with it and thought I'd share anyways.

10 LESSONS LEARNED IN 2016

...SO WHAT HAVE I LEANRT YOU ASK? LET ME ENLIGHTEN YOU

1. BE MORE YOU + LESS THE WORLD

Everyday theres a new trend or something that the world has decided is popular and cool. Everyday we are surrounded by societies need to monetise and make real issues a fashion trend. I'm sort of tired of everyone following the same wave and trying to be the same; wheres the individuality and uniqueness that we were all born with. I for one aimed to just be me in 2016 and not do something just because. But to take a step back and recognise myself in the mirror as being a part of this world but apart from it to be my own self at the same time.

2. FREEDOM

Those who went to university must understand this concept of freedom. Now 2016 was my graduation year and as soon as I left my house and moved back in with my parents, I felt trapped and sad to have left all my freedom behind. It reinforced my objective that I set myself ages ago, to save up and move out, because I suddenly realised I no longer had the same freedom I did whilst studying. I also found freedom in my mind, body and within my creativity. I stopped telling myself no and let my emotions ride through poetry. It was the best thing I could of done for myself and my mind.

3. CHANGE HURTS BUT IS NECESSARY FOR GROWTH

A lot of change has happened this year. I have lost my closest friend due to her influence by another, family life became shaken, a lot has gone down in 2016 and I must say it was the worst year of my life to date. I am happy for the downside though, because those incidents allowed changes in my life to happen and I was able to experience new things that I wouldn't of done otherwise. I was able to live more and breath more and meet new people; I went to New York for a month and travelled to Wales for a film, I graduated with lovely friends whom I hadn't spoken to for a while, I began writing and blogging more, taking polaroids and started protecting myself. Though I have a long way to go to recovery from my wounds (which would honestly take me a week to type up) I can see those changes have allowed me to be shaped for the future.
